Intense Encounter Erupts Between Security Forces, Terrorists in J&K’s Udhampur

Udhampur (J&K): A fierce gunfight erupted on Tuesday between security forces and a group of terrorists in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district, officials confirmed. The operation was launched following credible intelligence about the presence of militants in the region.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Udhampur-Reasi, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, the operation commenced in the early hours following specific intelligence on terrorist movements. “A Search and Destroy Operation (SADO) was launched today, establishing contact with terrorists in the Khaned area of PS Basantgarh. Operations are ongoing,” Bhat stated in a post on X.

Udhampur, known for its mountainous terrain, is part of the Jammu division, where Pakistani terrorists are believed to be hiding in dense forests. The army has deployed over 4,000 soldiers, including elite Para commandos and mountain warfare experts to combat terrorism in the hilly districts of Jammu, including Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Reasi, and Udhampur.
