‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Makers Face Legal Action for Allegedly Misrepresenting Hindu Gods

Prabhas’s latest film, the sci-fi epic “Kalki 2898 AD,” has come under legal scrutiny after a notice was issued to the film’s producers and cast. The notice, filed by former Congress leader Acharya Pramod, alleges that the movie misrepresents the Hindu deity Kalki and hurts religious sentiments.

According to ANI, Acharya Pramod stated, “India is a land of emotions, faith, and devotion. The values of Sanatana Dharma should not be tampered with. The scriptures of Sanatana should not be altered. Lord Kalki Narayan is at the centre of our faith. He is considered the final incarnation of Lord Vishnu.”

He emphasized the significant role of Lord Kalki in Hindu mythology, mentioning that Prime Minister Modi had laid the foundation stone for Shri Kalki Dham on February 19, reflecting the deity’s importance.

“The film contradicts what is described in our scriptures and hurts our religious sentiments. Saints are portrayed as demons. Freedom of expression does not mean you can play with our faith,” Pramod added.

The notice emphasizes the potential for confusion and the erosion of faith among Hindu communities.

“Kalki 2898 AD,” written and directed by Nag Ashwin, blends science fiction with Indian mythology. The high-budget production features Prabhas alongside Bollywood A-listers Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan.

The legal notice, filed by Supreme Court advocate Ujjawal Anand Sharma on behalf of Pramod, argues that the film alters the core concept of Kalki. It claims this portrayal contradicts Hindu scriptures and disrespects the faith of millions. The notice warns that the film’s depiction could lead to misunderstandings and misinterpretations of Hindu beliefs.
