Lok Sabha Election 2024: Phase 1 Polling For 102 Seats Tomorrow; 1,625 Candidates In Fray

New Delhi: Tomorrow marks the commencement of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, initiating the first phase of this monumental democratic exercise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is vying for an unprecedented third term in office, as voters head to the polls across 21 states and Union territories to elect representatives for 102 seats.

With over 16.63 crore eligible voters participating in this phase and nearly 97 crore registered voters nationwide, the electoral landscape is charged with anticipation. The BJP seeks to solidify its presence, notably in Tamil Nadu, while defending its strongholds across the country. Meanwhile, the opposition INDIA bloc faces the arduous task of challenging the BJP-led NDA’s dominance.

Among the electorate are 35.67 lakh first-time voters and 3.51 crore young voters aged 20-29, indicative of a diverse and dynamic electoral base. Notable candidates include Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Sarbananda Sonowal, Gaurav Gogoi of Congress, DMK’s Kanimozhi, and BJP’s K Annamalai in Tamil Nadu.

Polling stations will open at 7 AM and close at 6 PM, with robust security arrangements in place. The Election Commission has deployed over 18 lakh polling personnel across 1.87 lakh polling stations, ensuring a smooth and transparent voting process.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has highlighted the significance of each vote and urged citizens to exercise their democratic right.

Despite challenges such as heatwave conditions in certain regions, voter enthusiasm remains palpable.
