Maharashtra’s Theme-Based Polling Stations Aim to Boost Voter Turnout

Mumbai: In a bid to enhance voter engagement, the Maharashtra administration has introduced innovative theme-based polling stations across Nagpur and Ramtek districts. This initiative aims to showcase the rich cultural, social, and natural diversity of the state while potentially boosting voter turnout.

Ten theme-based polling booths have been established, with six in Nagpur and four in Ramtek. Each booth highlights a unique theme, such as Bamboo-forest, Metro rail, Army, and farmers. For instance, the polling centre at Ramtek’s Zilla Parishad High School focuses on the forest theme, while Nagpur’s Gokul Balwadi in Seminary Hills focuses on environment.

In addition, other themes include the textile industry in West Nagpur and the transgender community in Pachpaoli’s rainbow-themed booth. Meanwhile, in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, 56 pink booths have been set up where women manage polling responsibilities, along with several green booths in the desert state.

The first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 is underway across 102 constituencies in 21 states and Union Territories. Voting began at 7 AM and will continue until 6 PM. These elections are scheduled in seven phases, concluding on June 1, with counting slated for June 4.
