Haryana Harnesses Musical Bands to Drive Youth Voter Turnout in Lok Sabha Polls

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal announced plans to engage musical bands to inspire young voters to participate in the upcoming elections. The initiative aims to promote voter awareness and education while urging citizens to cast their ballots on polling day.

Agarwal revealed that the first band performance is scheduled for Panchkula, featuring election-themed music. Subsequently, bands will target districts with a significant proportion of young voters.

With nearly 2 crore eligible voters in the state, including over 3.65 lakh in the 18 to 19 age group and over 39 lakh aged 20 to 29, the Election Commission of India has adopted the slogan “Chunav ka Parv – Desh ka Garv” to encourage enthusiastic participation.

Agarwal emphasized the importance of youth engagement in democracy, aiming to surpass the 70% voter turnout recorded in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and reach a target of at least 75%.

Notable initiatives by the state election department include the ‘Voters-in-Queue’ app, personalized polling invitations, and setting up polling booths in multistorey societies. The ‘Voters-in-Queue’ app provides real-time queue information to voters, saving time and enhancing convenience.

Agarwal highlighted ongoing voter awareness campaigns and expressed optimism for record-breaking turnout. Additionally, approximately 20,000 polling stations will be established, an increase from the previous elections.
