IPL 2024: LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka Seen ‘Publicly Scolding’ KL Rahul After Crushing Defeat To SRH

Hyderabad: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a crucial IPL 2024 match on Wednesday, May 8. Following the defeat, their biggest in the season, visuals of franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka and captain KL Rahul engaged in a serious discussion on the boundary rope went viral on social media. The disappointment was evident as the entire LSG team looked dejected after the loss, which significantly impacted their chances of reaching the playoffs.

Despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, KL Rahul’s decision backfired as Lucknow Super Giants failed to capitalise on the powerplay, managing just 27 runs and losing two wickets. This lack of intent in the early overs set the tone for a sluggish batting performance. Although Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran’s contributions helped them post a total of 165, it was not enough to challenge Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In stark contrast, SRH openers Sharma and Head plundered a staggering 107 runs in the powerplay, effectively sealing the contest. Head’s blistering knock of 89 off 30 balls and Sharma’s explosive 75 off 28 balls propelled SRH to chase down the target in just 9.4 overs, setting a new T20 record.

KL Rahul acknowledged the brilliance of Head and Sharma, admitting that their batting display was “unreal.”

LSG will now look to bounce back when they take on the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 14. Their final league stage match will be against Mumbai on May 17th. With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, LSG will need to rediscover their winning ways to keep their hopes of making it to the playoffs alive.
