Karnataka BJP MLA Resigns as KSDL Chairman Following Rs 6 crore Seizure from Son’s House

Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa resigned from the post of chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) on Friday following revelations of corrupt practices of his bureaucrat son by the anti-corruption wing of Karnataka Lokayukta. KSDL is the manufacturer of the famous Mysore Sandal Soap.

Virupakshappa is the BJP MLA from Channagiri in the Davanagere district of Karnataka. His son, Prashanth Madal, is the chief accountant at Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

Prasanth Madal was caught accepting a Rs 40 lakh bribe by anti-corruption wing of Karnataka Lokayukta. Later raids at his house led to seizure of Rs 6 crore in cash.

On Thursday, Prasanth Madal was nabbed while taking a bribe of Rs 40 lakh. The anti-corruption wing of the Lokayukta arrested him. Later raids at his home led to the seizure of three bags of cash worth around Rs 6 crore. He was caught taking a bribe from a contractor for awarding a deal for raw materials required to manufacture soap and other detergents. Prashanth Madal is a 2008-batch Karnataka Administrative Services officer.
