Contractual Employee Misappropriates Over Rs 41 Lakh Govt Funds in Koraput

Bhubaneswar: A contractual employee named P. Ashis Kumar was arrested in Koraput district on charges of misappropriating government funds worth more than 31 lakh 45 thousand rupees. The accused was posted as a contractual accountant in the Koraput District Urban Development Agency (DUDA).

P Ashish Kumar joined DUDA as an accountant in October 2020 through CARE Security & Allied services.

His misdeed came to the fore when the project director of DUDA filed a complaint at Koraput Town police station that money had been illegally taken away from the bank account of the office. Personnel of the Koraput Town police station investigated and found that there was extensive money laundering between May 2020 and May 2023 during the tenure of P. Ashish Kumar. He had misappropriated over 25 lakh 88 thousand from one account and 1 lakh 78 thousand 152 rupees from another. He had also taken 3 lakh 79 thousand rupees from another account.

Similarly, 10 lakh rupees have been withdrawn from the account of Biju Yuva Vahini. The police have seized 7 passbooks, 2 debit cards, 2 vehicles, mobile phones and many sensitive documents from his house in Maharanipeta of Jaipur.
