11 Members Of Notorious ‘Eragola Gang’ Arrested In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown, a special squad of the Commissionerate Police apprehended eleven members of the infamous Eragola gang in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The gang has been linked to a string of robberies across the state.

The Commissioner of Police for the Twin City of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar, Sanjeev Panda, confirmed the arrests. Police seized Rs. 2 lakhs in cash and 17 gold chains from the apprehended criminals.

Hailing from Tippa Colony in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district, the arrested individuals belong to the Eragola tribe. The gang is known nationwide for targeting vulnerable groups, including people returning from banks with cash withdrawals and women wearing gold jewellery. Their modus operandi also involves smashing car windows and stealing valuables from parked scooters and motorcycles.

The Commissionerate Police expressed concern over a recent rise in snatching, theft, and burglary cases perpetrated by criminals from outside Odisha. Taking swift action based on a series of complaints, the special squad successfully apprehended the Eragola gang members.
