WATCH: Northeast India’s First AI Teacher ‘Iris’ Wows Assam Students

Guwahati: In a groundbreaking move, a private school in Guwahati, Assam, introduced ‘Iris’, the first artificially intelligent (AI) teacher in Northeast India. Clad in traditional attire, ‘Mekhela Chador’, and adorned with jewellery, ‘Iris’ mesmerized students with its prompt and comprehensive responses to queries.

This humanoid robot, developed collaboratively by Makerlabs Edu-tech under the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project by NITI Aayog, boasts a voice-controlled assistant that allows her to interact with students. From explaining complex concepts like haemoglobin to answering general inquiries, Iris keeps students engaged with detailed explanations, examples, and references.

“The children are very excited because the AI teacher has answers to their questions,” said a school teacher, highlighting the enthusiasm Iris has generated among students.

Beyond informative responses, Iris’s ability to perform gestures like handshakes adds a fun and interactive element to the learning process.

The school spokesperson expressed their commitment to leveraging Iris’s capabilities to personalize learning and make education more engaging for students.
