4 Trekkers Die, 18 Stranded in Upper Himalayan Region of Uttarakhand

Uttarkashi: Four trekkers died and 18 were stranded due to extreme weather conditions while trekking to Sahastratal alpine lake, situated at an altitude of 4,100-4,400 metres in the upper Himalayan region of Uttarakhand.

A 22-member trekking team was on a 35-km long trek from Uttarkashi organized by Himalayan View Trekking Agency, Maneri. They started their journey on May 29.

Land and aerial rescue operations have been launched in search of the trekkers. The local administration has requested the Indian Air Force to rescue the stranded trekkers and find the bodies of those who died during the Malla-Silla-Kushkalyan-Sahastratal trek.
