Amid NEET-NET Row, Man Arrested for Attempting to Leak Bihar Police Exam Paper

Patna: A candidate appearing for the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPPSC) exam was arrested on Sunday for trying to click a picture of the question paper with his mobile phone. The incident occurred during the exam held at the College of Commerce, Arts and Sciences in Patna.

The accused, Swami Vivekanand Kumar Yadav, was attempting the Sub-Inspector exam for the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department and Surveillance Department of BPPSC. His arrest comes amidst heightened scrutiny following allegations of irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, which included reports of a paper leak.

To combat malpractices, BPSSC officials ensured rigorous security measures, including comprehensive frisking, CCTV surveillance, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to verify candidate identities through biometric fingerprinting and photographs taken at the entry gate.

The BPSSC exam, attended by 1,280 candidates with a 95% turnout, was divided into two sessions: General Hindi in the morning and General Studies in the afternoon. Despite strict security, Yadav managed to retrieve a hidden phone, planted on the college campus days before the exam. Yadav’s attempt was thwarted by jammers installed by the authorities to restrict internet access and combat cheating during the exam. He was unable to send the picture anywhere.

An FIR has been registered against Yadav. The police investigation revealed his premeditated plan to use the hidden phone for cheating.

Meanwhile, a CBI team from Delhi arrived at the office of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police in Patna on Monday morning. The CBI is investigating allegations of irregularities in the NEET-UG exam held on May 5th.

The EOU had been investigating the matter before the Central Government ordered a CBI probe. They had arrested 18 people in connection with the case. The CBI filed an FIR on Sunday in connection with the alleged NEET-UG irregularities.
