Rape Accused Prajwal Revanna To Stay In Jail Till July 8

Bengaluru: Former Janata Dal (Secular) MP, Prajwal Revanna, embroiled in serious allegations of rape and sexual abuse, has been sent back to judicial custody until July 8.

Initially remanded to a 14-day judicial custody starting June 18, his detention was extended after the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the cases, sought a body warrant.

Revanna, 33, is implicated in three separate sexual assault cases. The allegations surfaced when explicit videos allegedly featuring him were circulated in Hassan ahead of the April 26 Lok Sabha polls.

The FIR was filed on April 28, accusing him of sexually exploiting a 47-year-old former maid.

Revanna, listed as accused number 2, fled to Germany on April 27, a day before the complaint was lodged. His father, HD Revanna, named as accused number 1, has been released on bail. Rape charges were later added against Prajwal based on the maid’s statement.

A second case was registered by the CID on May 1, with a 44-year-old woman alleging that Revanna raped her repeatedly at gunpoint. The third case, filed by the SIT on May 3, involves a 60-year-old woman who also accused Revanna of rape.

Interpol had issued a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ for Revanna’s whereabouts at the request of the SIT through the Central Bureau of Investigation. He was arrested by SIT officials on May 31 upon his return to Bengaluru from Germany.

Revanna, who contested in the recent Lok Sabha elections, failed to retain the Hassan parliamentary seat, which went to polls a day before his departure to Germany.
