IAS Coaching Centre’s Owner, Coordinator Arrested After 3 Students Die in Flooded Basement

New Delhi: The owner and the coordinator of Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar were arrested on Sunday following the death of three students in their coaching centre in the basement that flooded on Saturday.

The owner of the coaching centre, Abhishek Gupta, its coordinator Deshpal Singh were booked under charges of culpable homicide and negligence.

The bodies of two female students Tania Soni (25), Shreya Yadav (25) and a male student Nevin Dalwin (28) were retrieved from the site in the early hours of Sunday. Shreya was from Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni was from Telangana and Navin Dalwin from Kerala’s Ernakulam.

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi ordered action against all coaching centres in the city which are operating from the basement of buildings.

She also ordered an immediate inquiry to identify if any officers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are responsible for the tragedy.

Students in Old Rajinder Nagar, a hub for civil service aspirants, held protest demonstration on Sunday morning.
