Supreme Court Dismisses ED’s Challenge to Hemant Soren’s Bail

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the Enforcement Directorate’s petition challenging the bail granted to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam, reported NDTV.

The Jharkhand High Court had granted bail to Hemant Soren on June 28 with the remark that records do not indicate his “direct involvement” in the alleged scam.

The Supreme Court said the Jharkhand High Court’s judgment was “very well reasoned.”

“We are not inclined to interfere with the impugned order,” the Supreme Court bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan said.

Hemant Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 after he resigned from the post of CM of Jharkhand. He was

again sworn in as CM of Jharkhand earlier this month.
