18 Coaches of Howrah-Mumbai Mail Derail in Jharkhand; 2 Dead, 20 Injured

 Jamshedpur: Two persons lost their lives and 20 others were injured when 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan district at 3.45 am on Tuesday.

The accident occurred near Barabamboo, around 80 km from Jamshedpur, under the Chakradharpur Division of the South Eastern Railway (SER).

According to SER sources, there was another derailment of a goods train in near by area. It is not yet clear whether the two accidents are related or not.

Rescue operations are on and an NDRF team has reached the spot.

Out of the derailed compartments, 16 were passenger coaches, one power car and one pantry car.

After being provided initial medical aid in Barabamboo, the injured were shifted to Chakradharpur for better treatment.

The train had departed from Howrah on Monday night.

The SER cancelled 22861 Howrah-Titlagarh-Kantabanji Ispat Express and 12021 Howrah-Barbil Janshatabdi Express because of the accident. Some other trains were either short-terminated or diverted.
