Wayanad landslides Deaths Reach 387, Man Loses 16 Family Members

Wayanad: The confirmed death toll in the Wayanad landslides in Kerala reached 387. As per the official figures till Sunday evening, a total of 221 bodies and 166 body parts of the July 30 landslide victims had been recovered.

The number of missing people went down to 180 from the earlier 206. They include the missing Odia physician Dr Swadhin Panda. The number of missing persons fell as authorities were able to get in touch with some of them.

The search for missing persons in the landslide-ravaged areas of Wayanad continued on the sixth day.

Meanwhile, the sad story of Mansoor, a 42-year-old resident of Chooralmala has come to the fore. He has lost 16 of his family members in the July 30 landslide.

Mansoor lost his mother, wife, two children, sister, and 11 members of his sister-in-law’s family.

A rescue team of over 1,500 personnel from all three defense forces, NDRF, SDRF, police, fire service, and volunteers continue the rescue operations in the Churalmala, Velarimala, Mundakayil, and Punchirimadom of the Wayanad district.

Around 100 relief camps have been set up, accommodating close to 9,500 displaced people.
