Amid Bangladesh Unrest, Meghalaya Imposes Night Curfew Along Border

Shillong: Meghalaya has enforced a night curfew along its international border with Bangladesh due to escalating unrest in the neighbouring country.

The curfew, effective immediately, will be in place from 6 PM to 6 AM daily until further notice. This measure covers a 200-meter stretch within Indian territory from the border, announced Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.

In a statement, Tynsong highlighted the need for heightened security, mentioning that nine battalions of the Border Security Force (BSF) are currently deployed along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. The government is prepared to deploy additional forces if necessary, and the Deputy Inspector General of BSF has been instructed to provide continuous updates.

Meghalaya Police have also been directed to support the BSF as required. The decision followed a crucial meeting chaired by Tynsong, which included senior officials such as the DIG BSF (Operation), the Director General of Police, and the Chief Secretary, to address the ongoing violence in Bangladesh.
