SP Leader Arrested for Attempting to Rape 15-Yr-Old Girl; Party Distances From Him

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party leader Nawab Singh Yadav was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl on Monday in Kannauj.

According to UP police, at around 1.30 am on Monday they received a call on the 112 helpline number and a girl on the other side said that she had been stripped and an attempt to rape her had been made on her.

The police rushed to the spot and rescued the teen. Nawab Singh Yadav, who as per the police was found in an “objectionable” condition, was arrested.

The girl claimed that her paternal aunt had taken her to Yadav’s residence as she needed a job.

A case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and POCSO Act, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party has distanced itself from the leader. Kannauj District President Kaleem Khan in a statement said that arrested Singh is not affiliated with the party.

“It is important to clarify that Nawab Singh Yadav, son of Chandan Singh Yadav, a resident of Addangapur, is not a member of the Samajwadi Party. Despite attempts to link him with the party, he has been engaged in anti-party activities for years and is not connected with us in any capacity,” the official statement issued by the Samajwadi Party read.
