Supreme Court Closes Contempt Proceedings Against Ramdev, But With A Warning

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday closed the contempt proceedings against yoga guru Ramdev, his associate Balkrishna and Patanjali Ayurved Limited after accepting the apology tendered by them in the misleading advertisements case.

The court, however, warned them against violating court orders in the future.
The bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Sandeep Mehta said in their order that the court accepts the apology of Ramdev and Balakrishna. “However, we expressly and strictly warn them that they will not do any thing in violation of the court orders like it has happened earlier in this case. We have come down heavily and we warn that this should not be done in future,” the order said.

“The court has closed the contempt proceedings based on the undertakings given by Ramdev, Balkrishna and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd,” advocate Gautam Talukdar, who represented the yoga guru, Balkrishna and the firm, said.

A bench of justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah had on May 14 reserved its order on the contempt notice issued to Ramdev, Balkrishna and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd in the case.

The apex court is hearing a plea filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) alleging a smear campaign against the Covid vaccination drive and modern systems of medicine.
