14-Yr-Old Raped by Her Teacher Dies in UP

New Delhi: While a nationwide outrage continues over the rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor in Kolkata, a 14-year-old raped by her teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra has died on Tuesday at the Banaras Hindu University Hospital in Varanasi. She passed away after fighting for life for 20 days at the hospital.

The victim was a Class 8 student from a village in Duddhi of the Sonbhadra district.

The accused teacher, Vishambar has absconded. He served as a sports instructor in the school. On December 30, 2023, he had called the victim on pretext of participation in a sports event. But he took the victim to his house and raped her.

Although the health of the girl deteriorated gradually after the incident, her family fearing public shame didn’t report it to the police.

The victim was sent to Chhattisgarh to her relatives. There, the victim told her aunt about the incident, and was then admitted to the hospital.

According to the victim’s family, the accused gave them Rs 30,000 to remain silent.

But as the victim’s health condition worsened, her father filed a police complaint on July 10 and a case was registered against the accused teacher, Vishambar.

The police have registered a case under the POCSO Act and formed two teams to arrest him.
