17 Admitted to Hospital after Consuming Spurious Liquor in Ganjam, 5 critical

Berhampur: At least 17 people were hospitalised late Monday night after they allegedly consumed spurious country liquor in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Five of them have been shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their condition deteriorated and became critical. The rest are being treated at the Chikiti Community Health Centre (CHC)

According to reports, around 20 persons of Karbalua village in Chikiti area of Ganjam district had consumed country liquor at Moundpur village on Monday evening. Out of them 17 developed symptoms of severe uneasiness and vomiting.

They were immediately admitted to the community health centre in Chikiti. Later five of them were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Chikiti MLA Manoranjan Dyan Samantra visited the spot to review the situation. Speaking to newsmen he alleged that sale of illicit liquor continues as the excise department is not conducting regular raids.
