On-duty Nurse ‘Raped by Doctor’ in Private Hospital in UP’s Moradabad

Lucknow: An on-duty 20-year-old Dalit nurse was allegedly raped by a doctor at a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad. It is also alleged that the accused doctor had held the nurse hostage.

Following a complaint lodged by the father of the victim, the accused doctor, identified as Shahnawaz Mallik, was arrested.

Police have also detained a nurse and a ward boy for interrogation.

This incident occurred at around midnight on Sunday. The victim, who was working in the private hospital since November 2023, went for duty on On Saturday evening. At late night, another nurse, Mehnaz, asked her to meet Dr Shahnawaz in his chamber. When the victim refused, Mehnaz and a ward boy, Junaid, allegedly forcibly took her to a room on the second floor of the private hospital and locked it from the outside, alleged the victim’s father. The victim’s mobile phone was also snatched away.

As per the complaint, later, Dr Shahnawaz entered the room and raped her after holding her hostage. He also threatened her with consequences if she told anybody.

On Sunday morning, the victim reached home and told about it to her family. Then her father informed the police regarding the incident.

The police have arrested Dr Shahnawaz, who is a bachelor of unani medicine and surgery. A medical team visited the hospital and recommended sealing the building after shifting the patients to other hospitals.
