Raids At Bhubaneswar Unit-1 Haat as Potato And Onion Price Show No Sign of Decline

Bhubaneswar: The vegetable vendors at Unit 1 market in Bhubaneswar were raided by a joint team of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department on Tuesday to check black marketeering while prices of potatoes and onions are soaring high.

The joint team issued notices to three vegetable vendors at Unit 1 market for not maintaining records of their potato and onion stocks.

After potatoes, price of onions has become a major worry for inhabitants of Odisha. Potato and onion are being sold at Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kg respectively across Bhubaneswar.

Interestingly, the Food Supplies officials told media that the retail price of potato should be Rs 29 per kg, while onion should be sold at around Rs 50 per kg as its wholesale price r is Rs 42 per Kg.

Recently the price of potato has come down from Rs 60 to Rs 40 per kg across Odisha. But the onion price has increased from Rs 30 to Rs 50 per kg.
