Mumbai: A 20-year-old nursing student was allegedly raped by an autorickshaw driver in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri. The injured victim was found unconscious near Champak Ground in Ratnagiri and was shifted to the district hospital for treatment.
The victim sustained multiple injuries and a brutal sexual assault.
As the news came to the fore, nurses and hospital staff of Ratnagiri staged protests outside the hospital, demanding the death penalty for those responsible for the crime. Local residents blocked a road for hours last night, demanding swift action in the case.
According to preliminary information, the victim was offered drinking water by the driver when she took an autorickshaw ride home. The water was spiked and the nursing student became unconscious. The driver then allegedly sexually assaulted her at a deserted place.
An FIR has been registered and police are scanning CCTV footage to nab the accused.
