Consultant of Collapsed Shivaji Statue Arrested in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Chetan Patil, the structural consultant of the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg, which collapsed recently, was arrested on Thursday night.

Patil was absconding since the collapse of the statue on Monday. The sculptor of the statue, Jaydeep Apte is still absconding.

At least six teams of the Kolhapur Police, Sindhudurg Police and Thane Police were searching for the duo.

The 35-foot-high Shivaji statue was inaugurated by PM Modi on December 4, 2023 as part of the Navy Day celebrations in Sindhudurg.

A joint technical committee headed by the Indian Navy with representatives from the Maharashtra Government and technical experts is being formed to investigate the collapse of the statue.

The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has accused the ruling government of corruption in the matter of the statue.
