BJP Govt Dumps ‘Nua O’ Scheme, Scholarship; Will Introduce New Scheme for UG, PG Students

Bhubaneswar: The new BJD government in Odisha has decided to scrap the Nutana Unnata Abhilasha (NUA) Odisha scheme introduced by the previous BJD government.

The BJP government plans to introduce a new scheme, titled ‘Financial Assistance to UG and PG Students’ in its place to provide financial assistance to needy students.

State Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj informed this in Odisha Assembly and said no budgetary provision has been provided for the ‘Nua O’ scheme in the 2024-25 annual Budget.

“The new government is working on the modalities of the ‘Financial Assistance to UG and PG Students’ scheme and it will be implemented soon,” he added.

He alleged that the previous BJD government spent around Rs 95 crore under the ‘Nua O’ scheme and the money was spent only on holding cultural events in colleges. The previous BJD government had earmarked Rs 300 crore for the ‘Nua O’ scheme.
