Man-Eater Wolves Strike Again in UP, Kill 70-Yr-Old Woman, 4 Children Injured

Lucknow: The pack of wolves terrorizing the human habitats in the marshy Terai region south of the Himalayan foothills of Nepal are said to have moved further south from Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich to Sitapur.

On they killed a 70-year-old woman and injured four children injured in Sitapur district. In the Bahraich district, this pack of wolves has already killed nine people since March.

Their recent victim was Saifulla Begum, 70, who faced a wolf attack while she had gone out for morning ablution at Sadarpur in Sitapur district. Before her, the killer wolves attacked and injured four children in Dharampur, Garthari and Ganjari in 12 hours.

On Thursday, the Chief forest conservator of UP, Renuka Singh had said that four of the pack of six wolves involved in the attack spree had been captured through “Operation Bhedia”.

As per the forest officials, two of the killer wolves were roaming free. But locals alleged that they have seen five wolves roaming together. The residents of about 20 villages in Sitapur district have formed teams of youngsters to keep vigil in the area from 7pm to 4am every day.

According to Arun Kumar Saxena, the minister of state for forests with independent charge, police, Provincial Armed Constabulary and forest department teams are providing security to the villagers. Drones have also been used and village committees activated to track down the killer wolves.
