India Win 8 Medals on 5th Day at Paralympics; Gold for Sumit, Nitesh

On Day 5 of the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Monday, India won a total of 8 medals. Sumit Antil and Nitesh Kumar won gold medals.

Yogesh Kathuniya won his second Paralympic medal, winning silver in the men’s discus throw F56 event. Yogesh delivered his season-best performance with a throw of 42.22 meters. He had won silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Nitesh Kumar grabbed gold in the men’s singles SL3 badminton event at the Paris Paralympics on Monday. He defeated rival Daniel Bethell of Great Britain in a nail-biting three-game match, winning 21-14, 18-21, 23-21.

Manisha Ramadass won a bronze medal in the women’s singles SU5 badminton event.

Thulasimathi Murugesan claimed the silver medal in the Women’s Singles SU5 badminton event at the Paralympics by losing to China’s defending champion Yang Qiuxia in the final. Suhas Yathiraj earned a silver medal in the men’s singles SL4 badminton event.

India’s javelin star Sumit Antil secured his second consecutive Paralympic gold with a record-breaking display. He not only claimed gold but also shattered his own Paralympic record twice, with an impressive throw of 70.59 m.

India’s Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar won the bronze medal in the mixed team compound archery event at the Paris Paralympics.

Nithya Sri Sivan clinched the bronze medal in the SH6 badminton category at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

India has till now won 15 medals with 3 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze, in the Paralympics.
