Female Elephant Dies of Electrocution In Mayurbhanj Dist

Baripada: A female elephant was electrocuted to death at Jamasuli village under the Betnoti forest range in Mayurbhanj district in the wee hours of Thursday when it came in contact with a live wire.

According to reports, the deceased elephant had strayed out of a herd of 11 wild elephants that was roaming in the Badampur area under the Betnoti Forest Range. It reached near human habitat at Jamusuli on Wednesday night.

The stray female elephant came into contact with a live electric wire laid to protect the paddy crop and died on the spot.

The carcass of the pachyderm was spotted by the villagers who informed the forest officials.

The trunk of the dead elephant was found entangled to an electric wire.
