Elderly Man from Chatrapur Climbs Atop Puri Srimandir; Detained

Puri: An elderly man from Chatrapur in Ganjam district climbed atop the Dadhi Nauti of Shree Jagannath temple in Puri on Wednesday night.

Breaching the security cover, the aged person managed to climb to the top of the temple. Seeing him at the top of the shrine, some servitors raised an alarm. Fire services personnel and police managed to bring the man down after much efforts.  The man has been identified as 70 year old Balaram Maharana from the Bhaskar Rao Peta Street of Chhatrapur in Ganjam district.

According to his family, he is mentally unstable. On Tuesday, he left his home without informing anyone. His wife and other family members came to know that he was in Puri, when they saw him atop the the Dadhineuti on TV.

This mentally unstable man is under treatment for the last 10 years. He has two sons and two daughters.
