Bargarh: An official of a private cement company, Rambhav Gattu was arrested by the officials of Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday while he was offering a bribe to the collector of Bargarh district in a packet of sweets.
The accused, Gattu is the Chief Manufacturing Officer (East) of Ambuja Cement, Chhatisgarh.
Gattu had allegedly concealed a hefty amount of cash as a bribe inside a packet of sweets that he offered to Bargarh collector, Aditya Goyal along with a flower bouquet.
Suspecting something foul, the Collector asked an official to open the sweets packet and Rs 2 lakh in cash was found in it. Following this, the collector called up the vigilance officials. A team of vigilance officials reached the spot and arrested the accused officer of the cement company.
A case was registered against arrested Gattu under Section 8/9/10 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended by the PC Amendment Act, 2018. He was later remanded to judicial custody.
