WB CM Mamata Banerjee Visits Protesting Doctors; Says Came as ‘Didi’ Not as CM

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a surprise visit to meet the protesting doctors outside Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata’s Salt Lake.

She spoke with the protesting junior doctors, who are agitating after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Centre and Hospital.

The protesting doctors welcomed the CM with the chants of ‘we want justice’.

Mamata Banerjee said, “I came to meet you as your ‘didi’ not as chief minister. My post is not big. People’s posts are big. I haven’t slept last night as you all have protested in this heavy rain. I am here to tell you that please don’t do this. I am promising you that we will fulfil your demands. I want justice for the trainee doctor.”

“I will ask the CBI and request them. Please give me some time if you trust me…,” she said.

She also added that this was her last attempt to resolve the crisis.
