Sri Jagannath to Give Darshan in Bali Bamana Besha Today

Puri: The deities at the Shree Jagannath temple in Puri will take up the Bali Bamana Besha on Monday after the Bamana Janma rituals.

Lord Jagannath will dorn the Bali Bamana Besha attire after the afternoon dhupa ritual. They will give darshan to the devotees in this besha until the Badasinghara at night.

Lord Balabhadra will be seen in the majestic Raja Besha, while Devi Subhadra will be dressed in general attire.

The Bali Bamana Besha commemorates Lord Vishnu’s fifth incarnation in which he subdued the ego of King Bali and sent him to the Patala.

In the Bamana avatar Lord Vishnu asked the demon king Bali three steps of land. When Bali agreed, Vamana grew to a huge form claiming Earth and heaven in his first two steps. For his third step, Bali offered his own head. Vamana placed his third step on Bali’s head and sent him to the Patal Lok blessing him to rule over it till eternity.
