Pager Explosions Across Lebanon Kill 9, Over 3000 Injured; Fingers Raised at Israel’s Mossad

At least eight persons died and over 2,750 others were injured when communication pagers exploded simultaneously across Lebanon.

As per reports, senior Lebanese security sources alleged that Israel’s Mossad spy agency planted a small amount of explosives inside 5000 Taiwan-made pagers ordered by Lebanese militant group Hezbollah five months back and the devices exploded on Tuesday.

Pagers used by thousands of members of the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah, exploded simultaneously across Lebanon and parts of Syria on Tuesday. Nearly 100 pager blasts were reported in Syria.

International media claimed that the victims were mostly Hezbollah members.

Lebanon’s Health Minister Firas al-Abyad stated that more than 200 of the injured are in critical condition and death toll may increase.

The Iranian embassy in Lebanon has reportedly confirmed that its ambassador, Mojtaba Amani, was injured in the blasts but was out of danger.

The pager explosions follow the escalated tension between Hezbollah and Israel. In August, both sides nearly came close to a full-fledged war after Hezbollah launched a barrage of missiles into Israel, which was retaliated by the Israeli military by striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

There has been no official response from the Israeli government as of yet regarding the pager explosions in Lebanon.

Gold Apollo, a Taiwan-based manufacturer that produces pagers, denied making the explosives-laden wireless devices which were detonated across Lebanon. The company said the devices used in Tuesday’s blasts were made by a European company called BAC which has a licence to use the Taiwan firm’s brand name.
