Bengaluru Techie Steals 50 Laptops From His Company to Repay Loans; Arrested

Bengaluru: A 29-year-old man employed as a system administrator at a multimedia firm was arrested by the police in Bengaluru for allegedly stealing 50 company laptops worth nearly Rs 22 lakh.

According to police, the accused identified as Murugesh M, a BCA graduate from Hosur in Tamil Nadu, stole the laptops to repay the debts because of his losses to the tune of Rs 25 lakh from his unsuccessful tomato farming and cyber centre business.

He was employed in a company located at Whitefield area of Bengaluru.

Following arrest, Murugesh is said to have confessed stealing laptops over a period of time and selling them at a gadgets repair shop in Hosur.

He remained absent from August 22 without any notice. Later the company authorities came to know about the missing laptops. The CCTV footage of the area where the laptops were stored proved that he was involved in laptop thefts.

On receiving a complaint from the company, police registered a case and arrested him from a film hall in in Hosur. Five stolen laptops were recovered from him. He confessed to selling 45 stolen laptops.
