CAF Jawan Shoots Dead 2 Colleagues in Chhattisgarh; Injures 2 Others

Raipur: Two personnel of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) died and two others were injured when one of their colleagues fired at them in their camp in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district on Wednesday.

The shootout occurred at around 11 am in the camp of the ‘B’ company of CAF’s 11th battalion in Bhutahi Mod area under Samri Path police station limits.

The accused CAF constable Ajay Sidar fired at his colleagues with his service weapon, an Insas rifle.

One constable, Rupesh Patel, died on the spot. Another seriously injured constable, Sandip Pandey, succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.

Ambuj Shukla and Rahul Baghel, who were injured in the firing, were admitted to a community health centre in Kusmi. Shukla is being shifted to Ambikapur in neighbouring Surguja district.

The accused constable was overpowered and captured by some of his colleagues. He has been taken into custody and an investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the incident.
