Veterinarians Perform Successful Tumour Surgery on 21-Year-Old Parrot in MP

Satna (Madhya Pradesh): In a groundbreaking procedure, veterinary doctors in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district successfully removed a tumour from a 21-year-old parrot, saving its life. The surgery, performed on Sunday, lasted around two hours, and the parrot is now healthy and recovering well.

The owner, Chandrabhan Vishwakarma, first noticed a lump on the parrot’s neck six months ago. Over time, the growth became problematic, affecting the bird’s ability to eat and vocalise. Concerned for the parrot’s health, Vishwakarma consulted the district veterinary hospital in Satna, where doctors diagnosed it as a tumour and recommended surgery.

The surgical team, led by Dr Balendra Singh, extracted a 20-gram tumour from the parrot, which weighed just 98 grams. The removed tissue has been sent to Rewa Veterinary College for further analysis. Dr Singh stated that the tumour was located in the parrot’s throat area, making the surgery particularly challenging.

Post-surgery, the parrot is reportedly in good health, eating well, and out of danger. This case marks the first recorded instance of a tumour in a bird in Satna district.
