Lt General Appeals to Orissa HC Chief Justice Over Police Misconduct Against Army Officer, Fiancée

Bhubaneswar: Lt General PS Shekhawat, General Officer Commanding and Colonel of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment has requested the intervention of the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court regarding the alleged assault on Major Gurvansh Singh, an officer of the Sikh Regiment and the sexual harassment of his fiancée at Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

In his letter, the Lt General highlighted a serious incident on September 15, where Major Singh and his fiancée, the daughter of a retired Brigadier, were subjected to misconduct by police personnel. The couple had visited the station to lodge a complaint against miscreants, but instead of receiving assistance, they were allegedly mistreated.

The letter alleges that Major Singh was unlawfully detained for 14 hours, while his fiancée was sexually harassed and sustained injuries, as confirmed by a medical report. Additionally, the police station reportedly lacked CCTV cameras, a violation of Supreme Court directives. The Lt General accused the police of manipulating facts to cover up the alleged brutality.
