Ban on DJ Music, Liquor & Plastics for Dussehra Celebrations in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: This year’s Dussehra celebrations in Bhubaneswar will be free of DJ music, alcohol and plastic, following a decision made during a meeting on Tuesday.

Attended by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das, local MLAs, the Police Commissioner, and representatives of puja committees, the meeting aimed to promote more eco-friendly and socially responsible festivities.

It has been decided that no DJ music will be played at pandals or during immersion processions.

The Commissionerate Police will implement special measures to ensure that the festivities remain alcohol-free. In support of this, police will distribute pamphlets encouraging people to pledge against the use of liquor at pandals. Furthermore, during ‘pushpanjali’ rituals, oaths will be administered to committee members and devotees, committing them to abstain from alcohol.

The police will also crack down on the practice of collecting donations, often referred to as “Chanda,” without proper authorisation.
