Langurs On Duty to Save Fans, Broadcasting Crew from Monkey Menace During Kanpur Test Match

Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has resorted to hiring langurs to tackle the monkey menace at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium during the second Test between India and Bangladesh.

Langurs are known for their ability to deter monkeys. UPCA has deployed langurs along with their handlers at the stadium to maintain order in the stands.

Monkeys involved in stealing snacks and drinks, have long troubled fans and workers at the venue. So, the UPCA took the help of langurs to protect fans and broadcast crew from disruptions by the monkeys.

In a chat with Indian Express, venue director Sanjay Kapoor pointed out that the broadcast camera operators were particularly vulnerable to these mischievous monkeys as they are positioned in elevated stands for an optimal view.

The newspaper report adds that the raised stands used by television crews have been enclosed with black cloth on the back and sides to reduce chances of monkeys accessing the area in search of food.
