‘Monkey-Men’, Langur Cutouts to Check Monkey Menace During G20 Summit in Delhi

New Delhi: A team of “monkey-men” have been hired and cutouts of langurs have been placed all around the capital city to check the monkey menace during the G20 summit.

According to sources, monkeys have already started to munch on the floral displays laid out for global leaders.

More than 30 “monkey wallahs”, or “monkey-men” have been hired to shoo away the unruly primates. These “monkey-men” mimic the hoots and screams of the aggressive langur monkeys. Langurs are the natural enemies of the smaller rhesus macaque primates who are a menace in Delhi.

It is hoped that cutouts of langurs will drive away the monkeys from strategic locations.

It has been decided to deploy one “monkey-man” each at the hotels where the delegates would be staying, as well as in places where monkey sightings have been reported.

It has been decided to serve food to monkeys at some distant places so that monkeys prefer to remain in those areas.

New Delhi will host the G20 summit on September 9-10. As there are chances that troops of monkeys may charge in front of conveys of cars ferrying presidents and prime ministers from the G20 nations, the forest department is trying hard to keep the monkeys away.
