19% Candidates in Fray for May 13 Lok Sabha Polls in Odisha Face Criminals cases

Bhubaneswar: Seven (19%) out of 37 candidates in fray for the May 13 Lok Sabha polls have declared that they have criminal cases pending against themselves.

Six (16%) candidates have serious criminal cases against themselves, informed the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report released on Saturday.

The Odisha Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analyzed the affidavits of all 37 candidates contesting in four Lok Sabha constituencies in Odisha Phase-I elections.

Voters in Berhampur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Koraput parliamentary seats and 28 Assembly seats under these constituencies will vote on May 13.

The reports stated that 75% of BJP candidates are facing trial in criminal cases, while 50% of BJD and 25% of Congress candidates contesting polls for May 13 Lok Sabha polls in four parliamentary constituencies have criminal cases pending against them.
