School Teacher Caught on Camera Thrashing Student Faces Police Action

Ahmedabad: Police detained a school teacher in Ahmedabad of Gujarat when a video of him ruthlessly thrashing a student in front of his classmates went viral.

The erring teacher has been identified as Abhishek Patel, the mathematics teacher at the Madhav Public School in Vatva. The school authorities have also suspended him.

In the video clip captured by CCTV, Patel twisted the arm of a student and pulled him by his hair, and then the student was slammed against the wall. He also slapped the minor a dozen times and pushed him to the ground.

After the video went viral on social, the District Education Officer issued a notice to the school’s principal and ordered the teacher’s suspension.

Patel has also been taken into custody by Vatva police and legal actions are being taken against him.

Corporal punishment is illegal in India as the Supreme Court in 2000 had banned the use of corporal punishment in all educational institutions.
