Odisha Govt to Double Honorarium for Odia Teachers in Jharkhand: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: During his visit to Jharkhand, the Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced to increase the honorarium of teachers of Odia schools in Jharkhand from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 per month.

The previous Naveen Patnaik government was providing an honorarium of Rs 3,000 each to teachers in Odia schools in Jharkhand.

Odisha CM Majhi took the decision to increase the honorarium to Rs 6000 when the matter was brought up before him by the  Odia Samaj in Jharkhand.

The past BJD government had announced to increase the honorarium to Rs 4,000, which has also not been implemented. Majhi added that the arrears of Rs 1,000 as promised by the previous government will be cleared with retrospective effect.

According to the Odisha CM, a House Committee of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will soon visit Jharkhand to look into the problems faced by the Odia-speaking people in the state.

Over 40 lakh Odias live in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Sareikela and Kharsuan areas of Jharkhand. Speaking to newsmen, Majhi alleged that the Odia populace has faced neglect by the Hemant Soren government.

Majhi attended election rallies at Jagannathpur and Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district.
