Free Mahaprasad for Devotees at Puri Jagannath Temple Soon: Odisha Minister

Puri: In a significant announcement, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan has revealed that devotees visiting the revered Jagannath Temple in Puri will now be able to enjoy Mahaprasad free of cost.

This initiative, expected to cost between Rs 14 crore and Rs 15 crore annually, will not burden the state government as it is being supported by generous donations from countless devotees.

Acknowledging the importance of Mahaprasad in the lives of devotees, Minister Harichandan highlighted the emotional connection it holds for families and communities. The government’s decision to provide free Mahaprasad aims to enhance the spiritual experience of pilgrims visiting the temple.

To address the long queues and inconvenience faced by millions of devotees during darshan, the minister announced a new system that will be implemented from the Margashira month (mid-November). Under this arrangement, devotees will enter the temple directly from Sata Pahacha and exit through Ghanti Dwara, ensuring a more efficient and comfortable darshan experience.

With Kartika Brata approaching, the minister also assured that adequate arrangements have been made for Habisyalis, the devotees who undertake a rigorous fast during this period.

The government, he said, is committed to ensuring their safe and comfortable stay in Puri and their timely return home after darshan. Clear instructions have been given to local authorities to address any potential issues that may arise.
