Divya Khossla Kumar Accuses Alia Bhatt of Manipulating Box Office Figures for ‘Jigra’

Mumbai: Divya Khossla has publicly accused Alia Bhatt of inflating the box office numbers for her latest film, Jigra. In a series of posts on her Instagram Stories, Divya claimed that Alia purchased tickets to create a false perception of the film’s success.

On Saturday, she shared a photo of an empty cinema, stating, “Went to Citi Mall PVR for Jigra show. Theatre was totally empty… all theatres are going empty everywhere.” She further expressed her frustration with the hashtag, “#Aliabhatt me sach mein Bahut #Jigra hai.. khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye.” Divya also questioned the silence of the media regarding this issue, using hashtags like “#truthoverlies” and “#weshdnotfooltheaudience” to emphasise her point, all while wishing her followers a “#HappyDussehra.”

This controversy follows a debate over similarities between Divya’s film Savi and Alia’s Jigra. Savi, which stars Harshvardhan Rane and Anil Kapoor, revolves around a housewife trying to free her husband from an English prison, while Jigra features Alia’s character planning a jailbreak to rescue her brother.

Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala, experienced a slow box office opening, collecting approximately Rs 4.25 crore nett in India on its first day, predominantly from its Hindi version. In contrast, the Telugu-dubbed version garnered only Rs 5 lakh, with several morning shows in regions like Warangal and Nizamabad reporting zero attendance.
