1 Dead, 7 Injured As Roof Collapses At Delhi Airport Terminal 1, Operations Stopped

New Delhi: Amid heavy rains, a portion of the roof of Delhi airport’s Terminal-1 collapsed on cars on Friday killing at least one person and injuring six others.

Following this incident, all departures from Terminal 1, which has only domestic flight operations, were temporarily suspended. The check-in counters at the terminal were closed as a “safety measure”. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) in a statement said, “All departing and arriving flights from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 are fully operational. Flights at Terminal 1 Arrivals are also operating. However, the departing flights from Terminal 1 are cancelled till 2 pm today”.

Four vehicles, including cabs, were damaged in the incident that was reported to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) around 5.30 am.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu reached the airport and inspected the terminal 1. “Personally monitoring the roof collapse incident at T1 Delhi Airport. First responders are working at site. Also advised the airlines to assist all affected passengers at T1. The injured have been evacuated to hospital. Rescue operations are still ongoing,” Ram Mohan Naidu said in a post on X.
