11 BJD Ministers Have Lost Elections, Know Who Are They

Bhubaneswar: In the 2024 Assembly polls in Odisha, the BJP has vanquished the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). At least eleven ministers of the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government lost the elections.

Eighteen of 19 state ministers were contesting the polls, and 11 of these political heavyweights were dethroned.

The state ministers who lost included, Ashok Chandra Panda, Bikram Keshari Arukha, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Pradip Amat, Jagannath Saraka, Prafula Mallick, Sudam Marndi, Tukuni Sahu, Basanti Hembrum, Pritiranjan Ghadei, Rita Sahu.  (MoS)

Ministers in the BJD government, Pratap Deb, Ranendra Pratap Swain, Rajendra Dholakia, Sarada Nayak and MoS Tushar Kanti Behera managed to register wins despite the BJP wave in the state.

BJD had not given ticket to cabinet minister Usha Devi and her son Srirup Deb got the party ticket. He also was defeated.

Odisha Assembly Speaker Pramila Mallik has returned to the Assembly, but Deputy Speaker Saluga Pradhan was defeated. In the recent elections, 61 MLAs of the BJD and the Congress were defeated.

BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, who had contested from two assembly seats, also got defeated from the Kantabanji seat, while he won from Hinjili.
