2 Security Personnel Injured in Exchange of Fire with Militants in Manipur

Imphal: Two security personnel, including an Army jawan and a Manipur police commando, were injured in an exchange of fire with militants in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.

This exchange of fire continued for around 15 hours till late at night on Thursday in the Phoubakchao Ikhai area. Taking advantage of darkness, the militants managed to escape.

During the shootout, at least one house was torched in nearby Tera Khongsangbi.

The militants used mortars and the Manipur Police commando Nameirakpam Ibomcha was injured in a mortar blast.

Violent ethnic clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities broke out in Manipur on May 3. Over 160 people have lost their lives in these clashes since then since then, and injuring hundreds.
